Where Roots Shape the Future
India’s future rests in its villages, and the Model Gaon initiative is turning this vision into reality. Rooted in Mahatma Gandhi’s Gram Swaraj and Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam’s PURA (Providing Urban Amenities to Rural Areas), the program blends innovation with tradition to create self-reliant, sustainable communities.
When Fields Found Their Voice
The impact is visible in Tharoli (Saharanpur), where over 4,000 residents have benefited from mechanised farming, improved health services, and digital literacy drives. Nearly 47% of women in the village
are now part of empowerment projects, contributing to income generation and community leadership. Tharoli’s journey shows how targeted interventions in agriculture, education, and infrastructure can uplift marginalized groups such as SC, ST, and OBC communities.

From Candles to Confidence

In Kanthari (Firozabad), home to 6,410 people, literacy has risen to 75.1%, well above the district average of 66.3%. Women-led self-help groups have pioneered micro-enterprises in incense and candle making, while improved banking access ensures nearly every household has a functional account. The village also benefits from strong road and rail connectivity, linking it to urban centres and economic opportunities.
Model Gaon is more than a scheme—it is a movement. By empowering people, strengthening governance, and fostering entrepreneurship, it is paving the way for a developed India, one village at a time.
